The North Callaway Thunderbirds continued to roll last week with a 71-39 win over South Callaway Tuesday adding some backstory to this week’s South Callaway Tournament.
Matthew Weber shot 50 percent from behind the three-point arc - 6-for-12 and hit 5-for-6 from two-point land for 30 points. Sam Pezold had 16 points, including 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and 5-for-9 from the field; and Trenton Jones had 10 points. Braydn O’Neal had 7 rebounds and 8 assists.
The Thunderbirds set the tone early with a 27-13 first quarter. They led 41-27 at the half and didn’t let up in the second half, holding South Callaway to 12 points in the final two periods.
As a team, the Thunderbirds connected on 44 percent of three-pointers and 60 percent of twos. But the real story was the defense, which held South Callaway in check, holding them to under 40 points. That’s been a defensive goal for the T-Birds throughout the season.
Friday night, the Thunderbirds won big again. This time it was an 81-44 win over New Bloomfield. Seven Thunderbirds scored, with Weber unloading for 37 points on 13-for-23 shooting. Pezold added 16. With the win, North Callaway is 7-3 overall. They play in the South Callaway Tournament this week.
