Paris had to get through the host team on Saturday and that is what happened.
After receiving a first-round bye in the North Shelby Tournament, the Lady Coyotes defeated Scotland County 13-3 and then knocked off North Shelby 2-1 to win the tournament championship.
Reese Sutton allowed one earned run on six hits and no walks in six innings while striking out 11. Sutton was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double, but the big hitting star was Kennedy Ashenfelter after going 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles and one RBI. Knightlee Mitten finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Hope Sutherland had two RBI.
Paris (11-3) outlasted the pitcher’s duel with North Shelby, scoring the winning run in the sixth inning via a wild pitch to defeat its district foe a second time this season. Emma Ashenfelter crossed the plate on the play, and Layla Riechmann had a hit and a RBI in a game where the Lady Coyotes only needed three hits to win. Kennedy Ashenfelter pitched seven innings with six hits, six strikeouts, two walks and one unearned run.
