The Coyotes defeated Missouri Military Academy 15-0 in three innings and then lost 11-0 in five innings to Van-Far. Elijah Reynolds only needed 38 pitches against MMA (0-5) and recorded the team’s first shutout, but then Paris (3-4) had four hits against Van-Far (5-4).

“He threw strikes,” Beaver said. “That’s all we ask him to do. Our defense is usually pretty solid so all we ask him to do is throw strikes. If you can throw strikes and not give runners free passes, we’ll be pretty good.”

Beaver said Payden Crain, Brad Skinner, Mike Rosson and Elliot Key had standout days at the plate against MMA and in the last week and half but said the Coyotes are tired after playing six games last week. Beaver said Paris does play three games this week so he hopes the team can feel rested soon.

“We did everything we wanted to do in the first game,” Beaver said. “Everybody’s tired. They’re ready for spring break and a couple days off. Arms are sore, legs are tired and it’s finally catching up with us.”

Beaver said Crain in particular has been “tearing the ball up” and has been “absolutely crushing the ball” after what Beaver saw on Saturday. He said the whole team is looking good at the plate after a slow start.

“We’re starting to hit the ball,” Beaver said. “In the first week, we only got to play one game in eight days because of all the rain. We just weren’t game-ready. Practice pitching is different from game pitching.”

For Paris to be better, Beaver said the team needs to iron out that “one inning” that is inexplicable even for him. He said Van-Far hit the ball hard against the Coyotes but pointed to a 9-7 loss to Community R-6, which included them allowing a seven-run sixth inning to the Trojans.

“I don’t know what happens,” Beaver said. “We just have the one inning where we have two or three errors, we walk a hitter or we hit a batter. The next thing you know, you’ve given up four runs and they don’t even have any base hits.”

Beaver said Paris has two seniors and has three freshmen in the starting lineup. He said they have been working hard through the issues.

“I’m happy with what the guys are doing,” Beaver said. “We’re a young team and are getting better every day.”
