The Paris boys won their second straight conference game but had to sweat it out.
The Coyotes defeated Lewis and Clark Conference foe Schuyler County 44-42 on the road Friday night, clinching victory despite a 32-20 Schuyler County second half. It was the Rams’ first conference loss and only second loss of the season.
Paris (2-0 L&C) had a 24-10 lead going into halftime as the Coyotes dominated on the defensive boards 26-14 and when scoring in the paint at 30-22. They finished with 25 turnovers compared to Schuyler County’s 15.
Mason Edwards led with 14 points, Evan Smothers followed with 12 points, four steals and three assists, and Walter Rucker picked up eight rebounds. For the Rams (6-2, 1-1 L&C), Kale Windy had a team-high 22 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three 3-pointers.
Paris faces La Plata (4-3) at 11 a.m. Dec. 29 in the Moberly Area Community College Shootout.
Lady Coyotes fall behind early in 65-20 loss at state-ranked Schuyler County
The Paris girls had already played and lost twice to a state-ranked South Shelby this season and had another such opponent on Friday night.
The Lady Coyotes dropped their second Lewis and Clark Conference game at Class 2 No. 9 Schuyler County 65-20. Paris trailed 31-5 at halftime, finishing with a shooting percentage of 18.5 percent and committing 31 turnovers.
Kameron Arnett led with six points, five rebounds and two steals, and Reese Sutton followed with four points. For Schuyler County, Raina Small hit four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 22 points, Kait Hatfield had a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds (seven offensive), and Jacie Morris had 10 points and five assists.
Paris plays La Plata (6-3) at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 29 in the Moberly Area Community College Shootout.
