Paris girls sixth in Bowling Green, Kinnaman medals
Paris is ready for its attempt to qualify for state again in the program’s second year.
The Coyotes and Lady Coyotes run starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Class 1 District 3 meet at South Callaway but had a regular season competition on Friday at the Bowling Green Invite. The girls shined as they finished sixth out of 12 schools with 125 points, and Mairyn Kinnaman medaled in 15th place with a time of 21:30.
Alexandra Tullius had the next best Paris girls time of 22:35 to finish 27th out of 118 runners, and Ava Crain was 33rd with a time of 23:03.
The boys finished 12th out of 22 schools with 351 points as Landen Chapman was Paris’ top runner with a 21st-place time of 17:39. David Elzea had the next best finish in the 167-runner field as he ran to 78th with a time of 19:55, Chase Graupman was 89th with a 20:20, Hayden DeOrnellas was 94th with a 20:27 and Owen Buie was 100th with a 20:47.
Father Tolton won the boys and girls team title with 63 points and 31 points, respectively, and had the top individual girls runner in Elyse Wilmes with a winning time of 18:13. Bowling Green’s Ben Chance won the boys race with a time of 16:04.
Coyotes fall behind before halftime, loses 57-20
Paris had its best running back return after injury but couldn’t stop the opponents’ running back.
The Coyotes lost 57-20 to College Heights Christian in their regular season finale at Hughesville after allowing 223 rushing yards, including 143 yards on 15 carries from Levi Durling, and 30 points in the second quarter.
Gatlin Fountain missed the previous game because of an injury but was back and running 94 yards on 18 carries for the Coyotes (2-7). Quarterback Colton Kendrick was still unavailable so Luke Ensor was under center once again.
Aron McCain scored on a sweep play for Paris to account for 28 of his 53 yards on the ground via 12 carries. The Coyotes trailed 8-6 after the first quarter thanks to a fumble recovery for a touchdown but then fell behind even more.
College Heights Christian scored a seven-yard run early in the second quarter before rattling off several big scoring plays. A 53-yard counter run, a 19-yard dive play and a 56-yard passing play on a corner route made it 38-12 College Heights Christian at halftime. Brady Shivers scored on an eight-yard run for Paris.
Before the end of the game, College Heights Christian quarterback Logan Decker scored five touchdowns — two passing, two rushing and one defensive on the fumble recovery. Decker had 163 total offensive yards.
Payden Crain and Logan Mitchell led the Paris defense with nine and eight tackles, respectively.
Paris (with Madison) has the No. 5 seed for the Class 1 District 8 tournament and will travel to Edina at 7 p.m. Friday for the second time this season to face No. 4 seed and Central River League North Division foe Knox County (1-8), who it lost to 52-44 this season. Each team played to a 1-5 conference record.
