Saturday was, as Dave Reetz calls it, a double whammy festival.
Hickory Ridge Orchard kicked off the fall season with two festivals — the first annual Bluegrass Festival and the second annual Sunflower Festival.
A bluegrass festival has been a project between Reetz, owner of Mexico Music, and Brandt Schisler, owner of Hickory Ridge. Reetz said Schisler was originally inspired to host a bluegrass festival while the pair was attending a similar festival in Clarksville. Over the last five years, Reetz started building his bluegrass connections to bring Schisler’s vision to life.
“Overall, I thought it went really well for our first year,” Reetz said. “It reminded me greatly of when I started working for Silver Dollar City in family entertainment. It just thrilled me.”
