Rowe second, two personal bests for Bulldogs

Kennedi Rowe's round of 42 put her second on the leaderboard Thursday at Arthur Hills Golf Course, sandwiched between Southern Boone twins Lily Frazier, who shot a 41, and Lila Frazier, who finished with a 43.

It was a personal best score for Rowe, who won on the course in a meet earlier in the week with a 45.

Rowe looked as if she would dominate the field at first. She was just a stroke off par after a birdie on 12. But she found trouble on 15, landing an approach shot in a rock-strewn gully.

"I struggled on 15," Rowe said. "In golf when you struggle it's all about recovery."

On 16, Rowe proved her point by parring the challenging 121 yard hole with trouble lurking left of the green. She finished with a par on 18.

Alexis Henderson carded a 55, improving on her previous round of 60 on the Mexico course. Morgan Craig, who has been playing consistently thus far this season, tallied a 60. She hit 58 in the earlier meet.

For Henderson it was also a personal best. The Bulldogs freshman said she did not expect to improve so quickly.

"It was better than my first match," she added. In the season opener she ended up with a 70.

Craig struggled on only one hole, the 10th. But she fared well on 11 and was solid throughout the rest of the round.

She has been playing within a few strokes above and below the 60 mark. Craig characterized the round as "better than Monday but worse than Tuesday."

Southern Boone fielded the only full team on Arthur Hills' back nine on Thursday and had three players in the 40s. Harrisburg and Palmyra also competed.

Mexico's head coach Layne Ray can ignore team scores. She was pleased with the individual efforts.

"They are all determined to get better and better," she said. "I am very excited to see how this season plays out. We are off to a great start."
