The Van-Far football team was obliterated by the South Callaway Bulldogs (4-2) 62-12 on Friday.
Van-Far’s defense couldn’t contain the Bulldogs, as South Callaway bulldozed the defense for 580 total yards of offense.
“We showed our youth,” Van-Far head coach John Kliewer said, whose team fell to 0-4.
Jacob Martin threw for two first-quarter touchdowns for the Bulldogs and a rushing score put them up 21-0 after the first.
On a night where the Van-Far offense couldn’t move the ball — it only put up 113 total yards of offense — it was the defense and special teams that did the scoring.
In the second quarter, an 85-yard kickoff return touchdown by Bryson Lay put Van-Far on the board. Later in the quarter, Austin Taylor recovered a fumble and took it back to the house, making the score 35-12.
Van-Far couldn’t find the end zone again, conceding 14 points in the third quarter and six in the fourth.
Garrett Schmidt led Van-Far in rushing, carrying 17 times for 64 yards.
“Garrett did a good job of really running hard for us,” Kliewer said.
Tony Garland completed four passes for 51 yards, all to LaTrell Wright.
Lay took a hit to the ankle and didn’t play much on offense in the second half. Kliewer expects him to be fine.
Van-Far will look to pick up its first win of the season this Friday against Clopton (2-3).
