Already on top 5-2, Community R-6 overwhelmed Glasgow with 10 more runs in the fifth inning for a 15-2 blowout victory on the road Monday.

Olivia Schafer set the inning’s tone with a lead off single. Olivia Kuda followed suit, as did Lydia Forbis and Shelby Clark. Rylee Rafferty reached base. Ivy Hays doubled and the rout was on.

Sarah Angel went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Hays was also 2-4, driving in three. Rafferty and Brooklyn Glasgow each belted in two runs.

Meanwhile Clark was stingy from the circle, allowing just two hits in going the distance.

North Callaway falls short

A late inning rally was not enough as North Callaway lost 8-5 in their home opener to rival South Callaway.

After plating a run in the first, the Thunderbirds’ bats fell silent. Meanwhile the visitors pushed across three in the first and scored again in the third, fourth and fifth to open an 8-1 gap.

In the bottom of the sixth, North Callaway finally found their groove. Led by Brianna Prosser, the Thunderbirds rallied for four runs.

Coach Mariah McKee attributed the early slump to first game jitters. South Callaway entered the game with a win under their belts.

“We committed too many errors,” McKee said. “But the girls did not give up.”

Prosser was 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBIs. Ellie Bedsworth cracked a pair of doubles on the night, going 2 for 3 with a walk.

JV Football

Thunderbirds defense dominates

Lane Kimbley and Sergio Moreno provided all the offense North Callaway’s JV side needed, as the Thunderbirds defense clamped down on Hermann for a 14-6 win at home. North Callaway held Hermann to just two first downs and 18 rushing yards.

A late score and the recovery of the ensuing onside kick gave the visitors a chance. Once again, however, the T-birds line held.
