Tough weekend for North Callaway softball

The Cairo softball tournament wasn’t friendly to the North Callaway Thunderbirds Saturday, opening with a 13-10 loss to Community R-6. Callaway had nine errors in the game, including five in the seventh, which led to four Community runs to tie the game.

 Abigail Schmidt was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, RBI and run scored. Jalyn Leible was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and two steals, three RBI and three runs scored.

Callaway led 6-0 after three innings in what proved to be a back-and-forth contest.

In game two, the Thunderbirds fell 15-0 to New Bloomfield in a 3 ⅓-inning affair.

Cairo defeated the T-Birds 14-7 in the final game. Scoring was sparse early on, with the game tied at 1-1 after four innings. While not indicative by the score, the game went eight innings, culminating in a seven-run eighth from Cairo.

North Callaway batter racked up 10 hits, scattered throughout the lineup.

Callaway took on Hallsville Monday. They entered the game at 3-6 overall.
