USDA conducts prospective planting survey

United States Department of Agriculture will conduct a producers survey in preparation for the spring planting season.

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service mailed the survey this month asking producers to provide information on the types of crops they intend to plant this year, how many acres they intend to plant and the amounts of grain and seeds they store.

“Each year, the agriculture industry eagerly awaits USDA’s Prospective Plantings report, which provides the first survey-based estimates of U.S. Farmers’ planting intentions for the year,” Missouri State Statistician Bob Garino stated in a news release.

Survey results will be published March 31 in the Prospective Plantings and Quarterly Grain Stocks report. Producers who don’t respond by the deadline may be contacted by telephone or in person.

“The March Agricultural Survey provides the factual data that underpins these projections, making it one of the most important surveys we conduct each year,” Garino stated.

All NASS reports are available online. For more information, call the NASS Heartland Regional Field Office at 1-800-551-1014.
