Van-Far may have struggled with small numbers during the 2022 season, but two particular Indians were recognized for their efforts.
After their 1-9 season, juniors Gage Gibson and Nikos Connaway each earned a couple of selections on the Eastern Missouri Conference team, with Gibson being a second-team running back and strong safety/outside linebacker and Connaway being a second-team defensive back and punter.
Gibson ran for 369 yards on 115 carries and had defensive team-highs with 72 tackles, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Connaway was an effective runner at the quarterback position but also was valuable in the secondary, finishing with 37.5 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception. When had to punt, he averaged 26.8 yards on 31 punts.
