Van-Far’s first victory this season earned the team some hardware on Saturday.
The Lady Indians lost 7-4 to Scotland County in the first round of the North Shelby Tournament, but after a bye, they defeated Marion County 22-6 to take fifth-place. The 22 runs are the most Van-Far has scored in a game since a 23-7 district victory over Elsberry in 2018.
Van-Far (1-10) stayed within striking distance against Scotland County, shrinking its deficit 7-4 after the third inning. Reeve Woodall was 2-for-3 with one of a team-high two home runs on the day and pitched two innings with three earned runs on four hits and one walk. Dalana Gay covered the other 2⅓ innings with three runs on four hits and two walks.
The Lady Indians finished with 14 hits against Marion County with six extra-base hits. Three of those extra-base hits were home runs, doubling the team’s season total to six on home runs by Woodall, Gay and Kayla Heaton. Heaton finished 2-for-3 with five RBI and her home run was inside the park to clear the bases, Gay was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Elliott Utterback finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a triple.
