Nikos Connaway has a new destination.
After committing to William Woods University in Fulton earlier this year, the Van-Far all-state senior will now be playing for John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill.
John Wood head coach Jonny Dahl, who was announced as the new head coach last week, said on social media about Connaway: “Nikos is a coach’s son, and it shows. He consistently makes the right plays on both sides of the floor. NJ is a tough point guard that brings a high basketball IQ mind to the 2024 class.”
The Blazers finished last season 19-13 and lost in the Region 24 Championship game to Parkland College 73-56.
Mexico graduate Jordan Shelton played his freshman last year for John Wood, averaging 12.7 points, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point territory. Shelton scored at least 20 points in four of the Blazers’ final six games, including two in the Region 24 tournament.
